The rare smile on Hitchcocks face…

Framework

May 19, 1959: Suspense master Alfred Hitchcock lets a rare grin escape as he and his wife, Alma, pause for fans and photographers at the Shrine Auditorium, where they were attending a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet.

The Bolshoi Ballet performed “Romeo and Juliet” for a packed house of over 6,600, the first of 14 performances in Los Angeles. This photo was published in the May 20, 1959 L.A. Times.

The photo also was published in the 1999 Los Angeles Times book, “High Exposure: Hollywood Lives — Found Photos From the Archives of the Los Angeles Times.”
